WORKSHOPS TO BE HELD IN CONJUNCTION WITH IEEE
INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON ADVANCED NETWORKS AND TELECOMMUNICATIONS SYSTEMS
(ANTS 2018)

IEEE ANTS is a premier IEEE forum on advanced networking and telecommunications topics. IEEE ANTS is financially and technically supported by IEEE Communications Society. The distinguishing characteristic of IEEE ANTS is the promotion of an intense dialogue between academia and industry to bridge the gap between academic research, industry initiatives, and governmental policies. Like the previous editions with exciting technical symposia, tutorials, Women in Engineering mini conference, industry panels, PhD forums and exhibitions, IEEE ANTS 2018 will also feature a series of half and full-day workshops.

About Workshops

Workshops provide avenues for researchers in academia, and industry practitioners to share their cutting-edge research results in areas of particular interest.

The intent of the workshops is to cover specialized topics by a combination of regular papers, panel discussions, keynotes, conference white papers, panel discussions, and possibly poster presentations. For this year, the workshops would be aligned with the theme of the conference “Towards a Hyper-Connected World: Emerging Trends in ICT“. Emerging topics not specifically covered in the main track would be emphasized and workshops would highlight current topics related to technical and business issues that encourage active participation of students, academia, government and industry professionals.

In these workshops, along with invited talks from distinguished scientists working in related fields, technical paper sessions will be included. Authors are requested to submit an abstract (max. 500 words, text only) including the goals, the methods and the findings of the topic to be presented. The workshop committee welcomes your abstracts for oral presentations. All submitted abstracts will be reviewed by the technical program committee. Oral presentations provide authors the opportunity to present original work related to workshop topics.

Emerging technology in wireless cellular networks has resulted in demands for a variety ofp applications that need to be supported in the future communication systems. In this direction, future generations of wireless systems should play an important role in bringing these technologies to a reality. Various possibilities of exploiting available resources to enhance the user experience have been explored, especially through various edge (or last mile) technologies such as caching, data offloading, edge computing etc., to name a few.

Caching at the edge node of a wireless network, such as Base Stations (BSs), WiFi hot spots, and user equipment are being investigated to reduce the backhual congestion, and enhance user experience. Various caching mechanisms, both pro-active and passive, for efficient delivery of content to the end user have been explored under different models on the network. Distributed content network has resulted in the possibility of exploring different ways of storing
and delivery of the contents. Coded storage and multicast delivery of content are some of the key emerging trends in this direction. Other line of attack to improve connectivity is by allowing cellular operators to offload their traffic onto small-cell network such as WiFi. This proposal is popularly referred to as mobile data -offloading, and in recent times there has been enormous interest on this topic from all quarters, including policy makersto personnel in industry and academia. Mobile data – offloading can be technically achieved by implicit user allocation or by explicitly sharing the WiFi spectrum. In either case, innovative protocols and mechanisms are required to facilitate efficient coexistence of the cellular and WiFi technologies.

The 2nd Workshop on Wireless Connectivity Through Edge Technologyis a half-day workshop that will take place during IEEE ANTS 2018 in Indore City, from December 16, 2018. The workshop aims to bring researchers/experts around the world together to explore and discuss the state-of-the-art research in the areas mentioned above.

B. N. Bharath,Indian Institute of Technology, Dharwad
K. P. Naveen,Indian Institute of Technology, Tirupati
J. Harshan, Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi

AGENDA

According to a recent survey, the global mobile data traffic is expected to exceed the mark of 45 Exabyte per month by 2021. With increased network capacity requirements globally, there is a need for dense network deployments demanding higher energy consumption in near future. Further, the energy consumption of wireless networks is also expected to increase with the increased data rate usage and spread of Internet of Things (IoT). Large amount of energy consumption takes toll on the ecological balance and economic viability. The information and communication technology (ICT) industry has been recognized as the key to a low carbon economy and ensuring sustainability of wireless networks . With the emergence of new ideas and innovative solutions, research towards green ICT for sustainable future wireless networks is gaining momentum.

This workshop aims to provide a platform for academicians, researchers and industry people to come together and deliberate on the prospective solutions. Additionally, the workshop is intended to identify the potential research areas in the field of green ICT for next generation wireless networks. Prospective authors are invited to submit original papers (max. 6 pages) on their latest research results which would be peer reviewed. Papers should strictly adhere to IEEE
format (see submission guidelines). All papers presented at the workshop will be submitted to IEEEXplore for publication.

AGENDA

December 19, 2018

The fifth generation (5G) wireless technology has very different requirements compared to 3G and 4G cellular technology.
* 5G is expected to support 1000x higher mobile data volume and at least 10x end-user data rate.
* It is required to support a wide range of bandwidths.
* It is expected to provide extreme low latency in order to support tactile Internet.
* The number of connected devices is predicted to increase by a factor of 10 – 100x, thereby bringing in a need to support thousand of devices   per access point.
* To support asynchronous and random network access requirement of the low power M2M devices
* Wide range of industry verticals
* Most importantly, an End-to-End Architecture that allows for a cost-and time-efficient introduction of 5G is needed.

The goal of 5G and future wireless technologies (5G-FWT 2018) workshop is to provide a forum where diverse group of researchers can share the latest research insights, present key and novel results on 5G mobile communication technology enablers, including novel system architecture, and wireless techniques, explore different applications areas, and identify new challenges and opportunities focusing industrial applications.
